MARGARET VANDIVER - Dr. Vandiver's main area of research interest is state and collective violence, ranging from the use of the death penalty in America to contemporary instances of genocide. She recently published Lethal Punishment: Lynchings and Legal Executions in the South. Among her current research projects are a study of jurors in capital cases (funded by the National Science Foundation), an oral history project focusing on the anti-death penalty movement in America, and research on the influence of slavery on modern criminal justice practices. Dr. Vandiver is the graduate coordinator for the department. She teaches the graduate research methods course and a variety of elective courses.
